Healthcare Reform Act
As of March 2010 the healthcare law has helped 1 million young adults recieve health coverage.
Its now reaching the end of 2011 and in 18 months 1 million seniors, women, and children have benefited from the Affordable Care Act. It gives hard working families that security blanket for better control of health care costs. The law protects Americans from insurers from denying coverage to children with pre-existing conditions.
Employers:
The Health Reform Act is making it easier for businesses especially small businesses it provides affordable healthcare for their employees. “Full-time workers qualify for a federal tax credit of up to 35% of the cost of insurance”-Healthcare.gov.
It also increases the transparency of resources available and empowers employers to design the best plans for their workers; improves quality while lowering costs.
Young Adults:
Although, young adults have been historically ranked highest for uninsured rate of any age group. The Act enable young adults up to age 26 to be covered through a parent’s private health insurance plan. This is available to young adults who do not have employment-based coverage available; this includes: students, young a adults who live away from parents, and even those who are not financially dependent on their parents are all eligible to recieve benefits.
Seniors:
The Health Reform Act offers support for Early Retirees through providing quality, affordable health insurance for workers and retirees while also remaining competitive in the global marketplace. The ERRP(Early Retiree Reinsurance Program) reduces some of early retirees’ health insurance, providing much-needed financial relief for employers so retirees can get quality, affordable insurance. In 2010, 97% of thte funds from this program went to reduce premiums and/or cost sharing for health plan enrollees. The Affordable Care Act strengthens Medicare and Medicaid-spending taxpayer dollar more wisely and improving the way Medicare and Medicaid pay doctors and hospitals while providing the kind of high-quality care beneficiaries expect and deserve. The law makes preventive services like many cancer screenings available for free and offers new coverage through the “donut hole” coverage gap in prescription drug coverage until the “donut hole” is completely closed in 2020. Thanks to these benefits and the reforms in the law, a senior in Original Medicare could save more than $3,500 over the next 10 years.
